8 Fun Ideas to Enjoy in The Summer That Include Your Playset
Summer is here and we all know what that means! It’s that time of the year that kids have been waiting for and that brings long hours to fill in with fun and leisure. Nowadays, parents suffer from the invasion of screens and technological online activities and although some of those activities can be inspiring and lead to learning new and interesting things, what we really want for these generations is for children to enjoy the outdoors, play with friends and have some healthy backyard fun.
Read on to find out about eight activities that you and your family can do in your backyard and that can include your playset.
Summer Playsets Ideas
- Obstacle Course Challenges: Transform your backyard playset into part of a whole obstacle course. Use swings, slides and climbing features, such as rock walls or gangplanks as well as the rest of the yard to create a series of challenges where kids can race against each other. This not only promotes physical activity but also enhances coordination and teamwork skills.
- Themed Play Days: Organize themed play days, such as “Pirate Adventure Day” or “Space Exploration Day” . Encourage kids to dress up and use the playset to enact their themes. You can even join in and help out by incorporating storytelling to make the experience even more immersive and fun! An interesting thing to try out could be having your kids write out a script the night before and promote their creativity even further.
- Outdoor Movie Night: Set up a projector and a screen in the backyard for a movie night under the stars. Kids can sit on the swings or on the tower of the playset and enjoy popcorn as they watch their favorite movies after a day of play. This combines the fun of the playset with the excitement of an outdoor cinema.
- Nature Scavenger Hunt: Create a scavenger hunt that leads kids around the backyard and nearby areas, using the playset as a central hub. Include items for them to find in nature, like special shaped pebbles or leaves, and also things that you can hide, like fun-sized snacks or other specific items. Have them look around for these things and come back to the playset to check them off a list and also use the set for activities they need to complete, like going from end to end of the monkey bars, or sliding down the fireman’s pole.
- Art and Craft Station: If your playset already has a picnic table, this is a great way to use it, but if it doesn¡t, you can set up a table near the playset where kids can create summer-themed crafts. Use natural materials like leaves, twigs and flowers to make collages or provide smooth pebbles to decorate. A few small pots of paint, some paintbrushes and extras like colorful beads or yarn can set off sparks of creativity and let kids relax from physical activity for a while.
- Water Play Fun: Incorporate water play into the summer fun! Set up a sprinkler near the playset to run through it every now and then. You can also set up a small inflatable pool at the end of a slide so that kids land inside with a refreshing splash, although parent supervision is very important when doing this. Kids can also enjoy the water while taking a break from climbing and swinging, making it a refreshing way to cool off.
- Fitness Challenges: Organize fun fitness challenges using the playset; kids can time themselves on the monkey bars, see how many swings they can do in a minute or have relay races. This promotes health competitions and physical fitness.
- Picnic Playdates: Invite families to bring their picnic lunches and set them up near the playset area. Combine playtime with mealtime, allowing children to take small breaks, refuel and also socialize. If you have a safe fire pit in your backyard, it can be a wonderful way to wind down after a day of play and tell stories while making s’mores. This can be a great way to foster community among neighbors.
As you can see, you don’t necessarily need to travel or go to the beach during the summer to make sure that your kids enjoy the season; there are many things you can do in your backyard and with a cool playset, it will only double the fun!
