Fun Facts About Swing Sets
How to stop a swing set from swaying?
The laws of physics and swings go together!
The laws of physics are always involved when playing on a swing; they work by converting potential energy into kinetic energy. Think about when you sit on a swing and pull back as far as you can; when you do that, you’re building up potential energy which, in simple terms, is energy waiting to happen. When you pull your feet off the ground, the potential energy turns into kinetic energy, or energy of motion. Other forces such as gravity and friction are the ones that will bring you to a stop unless you keep providing the energy to move. How’s that for a short, fun Science lesson?!
There are amazing swings around the world that don’t really resemble the ones we find in parks or backyards
Three of the tallest and longest swings in the world are the Nevis Swing in New Zealand hanging from a 984 ft. arch and flying at a speed of 75 mph.
The Longgang Park swing in China and the Skyflyer swings at Bollywood Park in Dubai are the other two highest swings which are suspended from very tall structures.
Thrill seekers around the world gravitate towards these places looking for the utmost swinging experience! Although at Adventure World Play we do not have swings as tall as these, we do offer some pretty high swing sets within a safe range for your children! One of our tallest swing sets is the Jolly Jamboree which your kids will love. Click here to see this play set !!
World records
Sean Lewis, a 12-year-old from Rochester, New York, had broken the world record for the longest time to swing on a swing set. The time to beat was 32 hours, and he kept going for 36 hours! He says the toughest part was swinging through the night.
Patrick Cooper, a teenager from New Zealand broke that record by swinging for a little over 36 hours. He had planned to start earlier so he could swing longer, but he got a late start because he slept through his alarm!
Bottom line, centuries of swinging tell us that swings are just plain FUN! Check out our different models at www.adventureworldplaysets.com/catalog/ and find your closest dealer. Who knows, maybe your kids set a new world record!
